Lenten Services

Lent is a time when Christians come together to try and make sense of Jesus’ 40 days spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan. It is a time for us to gather and prepare ourselves to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter. The best way to do this is through prayer and by reading Sacred Scripture. Special services and study sessions begin on March 5th Ash Wednesday. The worship service includes imposition of ashes on the forehead. The ashes symbolize our frailty and mortality, and that we have the need to be redeemed by God’s mercy. Despite the external symbolism, the attitude of an internal penitence is very crucial to all who are baptized.

Easter Sunday is the day that we joyfully gather to celebrate Jesus’ victory over death and sin, by rising from the dead. And in this way he gives us all, the opportunity to receive eternal life. We know that physically dying is inevitable, but Jesus was more worried about rescuing the soul from dying and to provide a permanent place for it to reside. And, that is back to the Father, our creator, forever.
We extend an invitation to the whole community, to people from many traditions and communities of faith, to join us at these Lenten Services.
